Netflix Launches a New Tab on their Site “Just for Kids”
Good Morning! Today the inter-tube just got better for children and young adults. Netflix has announced a new section of their website called “Just for Kids”. The new site groups all of the popular titles that the young ones like from Garfield to Disney and even throws in The Munsters. There is even a collection of educational materials from national geographic.
One of the really great things about the new addition is that at the top of the page they have a list of characters that you can scroll through like Sponge Bob SquarePants, Salena Gomez, and Captain America. When you click on a character of choice like Captain America you get options for The Avengers cartoon. There are also details about how many episodes are online and even all the episode names. Growing up, episode names were not the most popular. It was more along the lines of . . . “did you see that episode of The Smurfs where Gargamel captured Papa Smurf”. I suppose with all of the different options on TV it is more important for kids to associate with names.
You can also browse by genre. To name a few we have Nickelodeon, Sci-Fi, Disney and Animated. This just really makes it easier for a child to navigate the many different options out there. Also I am sure it will make for a great opportunity for parents to offer sub-accounts for children to have to watch all of their favorites without the adult content.
You also have the new interface with the scrolling ribbon for all of the genres available. One of the problems that I have with the scrolling is that it goes so slow. You should be able to accelerate the speed in your settings. It is so sloooooooooow. You can click to bring up a new row but I think the default on the auto-scrolling is a bit slow.
For the most part, the site is getting better. I am still going to move to a streaming only service in September. And I am still very upset with there decision to hike pricing. I am taking it with a grain of salt, to see if they really are going to start offering more choice online. They have been trying to get away from the disc in mail model because it is just to expensive. Did I mention that The Jetson’s is on Netflix? Gotta run. . .
